Plot Summary

A visual and physical journey for viewers, beginning with an exploration of non-individual societal values (back cover) and through a dramatic realignment (the spine) catalyzed by a community of creators (front cover), as the viewer is welcomed into the inside of the book to experience exploration directed internally (psychology, spirituality, Helga) and directed externally (space exploration, Carl), and the union of the two (the binding).

Lesson: Get over fear of cutting plexi with a circular saw! Wear goggles, gloves, and (next time) a mask.  Also, clamp a T-square to left side of saw to keep line straight.  Cuts like a dream.

“I don’t really deeply feel that anyone needs an airtight reason for quoting from the works of writers he loves, but it’s always nice, I’ll grant you, if he has one.” -J.D. Salinger, from “Seymour: An Introduction.” 

 The quotes below open up my favorite book/short story, “Seymour: An Introduction,” and are taken from Kierkegaard and Kafka.  The story is nominally about the narrator’s brother, Seymour Glass, a “seer” and “Poet,” but is really about the creative process.  The “plot” (the quotes are unnecessary, goddammit) is interspersed with asides, parentheticals, personal doubts, literary references, advice to creators, self-judgments, and all manner of self-imposed obstacles, that every creative experiences on the trip towards creation — the creation’s seeming reluctance to manifest from ideas into physical form.
